1988 351w Twin Turbo Ford Mustang

04-29-07 - A lot has happend since my last update... I bought a house a bit east of Memphis.. Trailered my car out here from NC in early November and started back to work on it in January of 07. Long story short, I put a solid roller cam and solid roller lifters in the engine. I also re-fabricated the driver's side downpipe to get better ground clearance.. Also fabricated a 3" exhaust pipe for each bank back to the rear axle. I adapted a power steering pump out of the junkyard with a remote reservoir since the old reservoir was being melted by an exhuast manifold. I sandblasted and coated the exhaust headers and then wrapped them with header wrap to keep the heat off the plug wires. I added some fiberglass sleeves over parts of the plug wires and over all of the boots. I am amazed the amount of heat under the hood.. tubo blankets and wrapped downpipes are happening in the near future once I pay off some bills. A few days ago I put tag and insurance on it and drove it some. The fuel map has lots of holes in it, but it isn't too bad for my first try. I've been driving and tuning the fuel maps some. Hopefully soon I can get it to the track!

09-11-06 - In the few weeks that I was in NC before moving to Memphis, I was able to play with my Mustang a little bit. Learned a lot more about MegaSquirt and what areas I need to tune when I get it back on the street. Right now I don't have the car here in Memphis, and probably won't be able to bring it out here until I go back home at Christmas. The wait is killing me, I need my toy! I work on production cars all day long; I'm ready to work on a real engine for a bit. At least right now I'm not tempted to spend money on more parts, so that's good. I have lots of tools that I need to get for work. It's close to being ready for some street action.. I need to put some form of an exhaust system on there, finish the PCV system, get some air filters that will fit in my space limitations, and then work on the tune in MegaSquirt. Turns out what I originally thought was a spark issue is a result of the very rough fuel table.. the engine was going lean. So, a little work on the VE table to correct the AFRs and it should be running a lot better.

03-25-06 - Last weekend I moved to Thorndale, PA for 3 months for a VW factory training program. Therefore, all progress on the Mustang is on hold for an undetermined amount of time. :-\ Before I left, I got it running ok and I drove it a little. There is some kind of spark issue going on, or at least it sure feels and acts like a spark issue. Pretty much any time I get the engine under load (MAP sensor above 75 KPa) the engine will start cutting out and jerking. I installed some 11mm Moroso plug wires which helped, but didn't solve the problem. There's a few other small issues I need to work out before I can drive it much more, but over all, it's doing ok.
